LIZ AKERS
Liz Akers

Liz Akers

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP, working with children, young people, and adults. I offer a calm, safe, and supportive space where people can talk openly and feel listened to without judgement. Feedback I have received from clients includes comments such as “easy to talk to,” “always calm,” and “I wish you were my friend,” which reflects the importance I place on building warm, trusting relationships. “

I have worked and volunteered in education settings for over 15 years, which means I have a strong understanding of how schools work and the challenges that children and young people face both emotionally and socially. This experience helps me support children with difficulties such as friendships, behaviour, transitions, emotions, self-esteem, pressure at school, and managing expectations in the classroom.

My experience includes working with children and young adults who have ADHD or who are waiting for an assessment or diagnosis. I understand how stressful this period can be for children and families. My focus is always on the individual child, not on labels. I use creative and practical approaches to help children understand their feelings, manage emotions, and build confidence.

I also work with adults experiencing a broad range of issues, including anxiety and stress, confidence and self-esteem, body image, relationship and family issues, grief, loss and bereavement, life transitions, work related issues, feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, and constantly worried. Therapy can help you make sense of what you are feeling and find ways to cope that work for you and your family.  I offer gentle, understanding support to help you talk through your feelings at your own pace.

I work using an integrative approach, meaning I adapt how I work to suit each person’s needs. Building a trusting relationship is very important to me because from personal experience I know that I would never consider opening up to anyone if I did not feel secure and safe. When working with children, I may also work alongside parents, carers, and schools where appropriate, to help provide consistent support.

I work in line with BACP ethical guidelines and attend regular supervision and training. My aim is to help children and adults feel understood, supported, and more confident in managing life’s challenges.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to their ethical framework.

Who I work with

I work with you and what you bring.  This may be a wish to explore a nagging sense of dissatisfaction, anxiety or discomfort, or to alleviate feelings of grief, pain or sadness.  You may be struggling with the memories and effects of past experiences, or feel at the mercy of your own inner critic. You may be seeking support at a crossroads or with a challenging decision.  You may feel frustrated and exhausted, attempting to solve the seemingly unsolvable or feel it is time to change unhelpful patterns or habits.  You may bring all or some of the above, or something different.

I believe that we are all experts on ourselves and that there is great transformative power and relief when we feel truly seen and heard.  Whatever you bring, I will meet you where you are at this moment, taking your needs and sensibilities into account in the pace and depth of the work we do.  I will work with you collaboratively and compassionately in an atmosphere of empathy, flexibility, and safety.

About me

I am passionate about counselling and psychotherapy as a means of self-discovery and transformation.

Before qualifying as a therapist I worked in community arts programmes, delivering projects around personal health and social education.  Alongside my therapy practice, I also work within communications skills courses tackling difficult conversations within hospitals and hospices.

My experience as a therapist includes working with neurodivergence, parenting, eating disorders, illness, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem and spirituality.  In addition to private clients, I have volunteered for Tomorrow’s Women, Sunflowers Cancer Support and Wirral Mind.

I have a special interest in the challenges faced by parents and carers of children with extra needs, for which I have recently undertaken research.  I am a passionate advocate for education and awareness of autism and neurodivergence.

NICOLA CLARK

Nicola Clark

Nicola Clark, Dip.Couns, Dip.CBT, MBACP (Accred)

Hello my name is Nicola, thank you for taking the time to visit my profile.

I have experience in a wide range of issues such as anxiety, worry, work related stress, low self-esteem, relationships and family issues. I have additional training and a particular interest in women’s health including endometriosis, adenomyosis and the menopause, infertility & IVF,  pregnancy & infant loss and bereavement, loss & grief.

I have my own lived experiences of women’s health issues including endometriosis, adenomyosis, infertility and IVF. Along with this I have had significant losses in my life, all of which led me to seek therapy myself. I therefore understand the importance of choosing the right counsellor and how difficult it can be to make that first step.

I am an Accredited Person Centred & CBT Therapist which means I can work integratively to meet the needs of each of my clients.

Person Centred Counselling is a type of talking therapy which allows you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. By providing a safe and warm environment, I can help support you to navigate the changes you wish to make.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) focuses on how your thoughts and beliefs can affect how you feel and in turn how you behave. It is based on the idea that it is our interpretation of a situation that can impact how we feel and then behave.

I accept my clients for who they are and will listen and support in a non – judgmental way.

My skills and experience have also developed with the Volunteer work I carry out at Mental Health Therapies Wirral and Cruse Bereavement Wirral.

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I adhere to their code of ethics.

I am also an individual member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association).

All sessions are 50 minutes long, and I offer an initial free 20-minute informal chat via the telephone.

I work with adults and trainee counsellors. I am fully insured, I am a member of the Information Commissioners Office, and I am also DBS checked.

ANDY COTTRELL
Andy Cottrell

Andy Cottrell

Life can be overwhelming at times and feel as though it’s full of challenges and uphill struggles. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, depressed, or generally a ‘bit stuck’ with life.

Many people feel exactly the same way and I am here to support you so that you don’t have to navigate, which way to go, or, what to do, alone. There may not even be a clear issue that you would like to explore but there is just an underlying unease and ‘not being ok’ feeling.

By working collaboratively, we will facilitate a judgement free space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences before starting to navigate the changes that you would like to make, all at your pace and within your comfort zone.

I am passionate about helping people and I feel and believe that everyone has the right to feel peaceful and safe in this world. By integrating different counselling techniques from different counselling models (Person Centred, Psychodynamic and CBT) we can create a ‘what works best’ for you approach and ‘tailor’ the right type of counselling to meet each individual persons needs. I am able to do this through my professional training as an Integrative and CBT Counsellor and so the counselling approach being delivered can be just as individual as you are.

I started training as a counsellor in 2013 and in that time have gained experience of supporting people with their mental health on issues such as (but not limited to) –

  • Anxiety
  • OCD
  • Low mood
  • Depression
  • Male Health Issues
  • Addictions
  • Retirement Syndrome
  • Prison Release
  • Work Related Stress
  • Loss of Identity
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Homelessness
  • Divorce
  • Social Anxiety
  • Self Esteem/Confidence

So that your wellbeing and safety is being protected at all times, I am a registered member of the BACP and NCPS and I adhere to their code of ethics.

I also hold full indemnity insurance, am a member of the ICO and hold a full and up to date DBS.

I work with adults and trainee counsellors.

All my sessions are a ‘counselling hour’ (50 minutes long) and I offer a free initial 20-minute phone call to see if we are comfortable working with each other.

Holly practices CBT for a NHS Talking Therapies service and has recently started her private practice. Formulation helps you understand your current thought patterns and behaviours related to your mental health challenges, as well as the experiences and beliefs that have shaped them. Upon completing my postgraduate studies in Transactional Analysis at SMCP (South Manchester Centre for Psychotherapy), I now practise as a registered therapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist in advanced training, adhering to the ethical frameworks of both the BACP and UKATA.

I spent a number of years volunteering at Age UK, Wirral. In that time, I have worked with adult clients with various presenting issues. I also work in education as a counsellor at a specialist independent school that supports children (ages 7 to 16 years) with such things as autism (ASC), learning difficulties and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Besides my experience of working as a therapist, I have worked in the private sector, in a high stress environment for over two decades. This experience has given me an insight into managing stress and finding work-life balance first-hand.

My way of working encompasses the philosophical values of TA, in that all humans are inherently ‘OK’ and that we all have the power to change.

My perspective on the therapeutic relationship is that the therapist’s role is a facilitator for positive change, creating a safe space for the client to feel trusted and understood. This in turn gives my clients an environment in which they can grow, and learn the tools they can use in order to challenge negative patterns of behaviour and beliefs.

Most of us are familiar with the term ‘downward spiral’ in the context of life; how about a new narrative in which we spiral upwards through healing and positive change?

I currently offer individual therapy for adults and adolescents (11 years old and above).

Areas and issues that I can support include:

  • Family systems
  • Recovery from abusive relationships
  • Improving low mood and anxiety
  • Childhood trauma
  • Increasing assertiveness and challenging procrastination
  • Self-esteem and body confidence
  • Improving self-care (physical and mental wellness)
  • Managing stress and energy levels
  • Managing aggression and anger
  • Bereavement
  • Serious and terminal illness such as cancer and fibromyalgia
  • Autism & ADHD
  • Men’s issues
  • Sexuality and sexual related issues

Jonathan Fletcher

Hi, my name is Jonny, and I am a COSRT-registered therapist specialising in psychosexual and relationship issues.

Embarking on a therapeutic journey can initially feel daunting, but it can become a life-changing and affirming experience. It is my job to provide a safe, empathetic, and non-judgemental space to explore whatever issue is troubling you, although engaging in therapy can be hugely beneficial even without a specific problem.

I have a strong interest in working with compulsive sexual behaviours (sex and or porn addiction) and issues around erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders, painful sex and mismatched or low / no sexual desire both with individuals and relationships be they ‘traditional’ or polyamorous / consensually non-monogamous. My relationship work is rooted in working with attachment difficulties, infidelity and communication problems and I am passionate about Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) and supporting our LGTBQIA+ community.

I practice an integrative and person-centred approach to therapy that reflects both my training background and personal philosophy, utilising a range of different approaches and techniques rather than subscribing to one specific modality; different approaches work for different people and issues, and all might have something useful to offer. The most important aspect is that we will work collaboratively to find the approach that best resonates with you.

Our aptitude for change never diminishes and I firmly believe we can reinvent our lives with the right support. My own lived experience and journey though psychosexual, relationship and neurodivergent issues fuels the passion I have to work with those who need that support.

JESSICA GAMBLE
Jessica Gamble

Jessica Gamble

Hi, I’m Jess, an integrative counsellor based in Wirral.

I believe everyone is unique, so I tailor the counselling process to fit individual needs, using elements from different therapeutic approaches. We can discuss any specific methods you want to explore or avoid.

I align with the Person-Centred approach, believing our environment affects our growth. I will provide a space for you to safely process your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I will support you to explore your needs and potential barriers to them being met.

In this space, we’ll explore your presenting issues and what you hope to gain from our sessions. We could focus on areas such as self-care, boundaries, your support circle, and building a “toolbox” for managing feelings and gaining insight, the way we work will depend on what your individual needs are. You may attend counselling with a specific issue that you want to address or you may want to address an overall feeling that is sitting with you. This is different for each person.

I work with clients from all communities and offer the following:

Neurodivergent Affirming Counselling. I support and affirm neurodivergent differences, where relevant we may focus on sensory self-care, internal beliefs, boundaries, and individual needs, without viewing being neurodivergent as something to “cure.”

LGBTQ+ Affirming Counselling. I embrace a positive view of LGBTQ+ identities and relationships, addressing harmful influences like homophobia and transphobia. Authenticity is key to a strong therapeutic relationship, whether or not your focus is related to being LGBTQ+.

I’m committed to continuous professional development, having engaged in CPD and training in areas such as Mental Health First Aid, Neurodiversity, Gender and Sexuality, Trans+ Awareness and Bereavement.”

KRYSTYNA HALLLIGAN
Krystyna Halligan

Krystyna Halligan

Hi, I’m Krystyna Halligan, a fully Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapist (IPT).

Our mind can be a messy place and sometimes we can feel as though we are totally alone and being driven by our thoughts! Do you find it difficult to make sense of your thoughts? Or to regain control over them once they start becoming louder? More and more people are struggling with this but are struggling to open up because of feelings of embarrassment or shame. Once we take that first step and say our thoughts out loud, in a safe space, distressing thoughts immediately lose their sting. Your bravery in seeking support will put you in the driver’s seat and then we can work together to really unpick your thoughts and regain control.

Therapies: I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including trauma-focussed CBT (TF-CBT), as well as Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). IPT is beneficial for you if you suffer with depression and it is linked to relationships, significant life changes or a recent bereavement. CBT is beneficial if you are struggling more with an anxiety-specific disorder, problematic thinking, or depression when it is not linked to relationships alone.

Qualifications: I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology; a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CBT); a Postgraduate Certificate in Personality Disorder; and an IPTUK Practitioner Accredition in IPT.

Additional Training: Diplomas in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. IPT Brief (IPT-B) Training: an 8-session adaptation of IPT, which is typically delivered over 16 sessions.

Experience: I have experience working with older adolescents (16+), adults, older adults (65+), addictions, offenders, personality disorder, and neurodivergence.

Areas of expertise: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic, Specific Phobias, Low Self-esteem, Depression, Grief, and Interpersonal issues.

Therapeutic Stance: I am a collaborative therapist who views myself as just one of the two experts in the room. I will play an active role in your recovery, supporting you every step of the way. I hold an empathic and validating stance, and we will celebrate your achievements together. I am naturally curious and will support you in delving deeper into your thoughts and feelings, thus gaining a deeper understanding of your symptoms and story.

Professional Association: I am a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and IPTUK, and I fully adhere to their standards of conduct, performance and ethics.

NICOLA HARRIS
Nicola Harris

Nicola Harris

Sometimes life feels overwhelming and we’re not quite sure why our thoughts and emotions become tangled, and this can deeply affect our mood and behaviour. Speaking to someone in a confidential, non-judgemental space outside your usual support network may offer the clarity and care you need.

Many of my clients relate to one or more of the following experiences:

  • Life has turned out differently than expected
  • Relationship breakdown, conflict, or feeling disconnected from a partner
  • Feelings of anxiety, stress or persistent worry
  • Low motivation or difficulty coping with loss or change
  • Unexpected “curve balls” that have knocked them off balance
  • Feeling like they’re spinning too many plates or losing control
  • Struggling to meet the needs of family, friends, or work
  • Feeling lost, hopeless or unfulfilled — not enjoying life the way they used to
  • Trouble relaxing, or persistent sleep issues
  • Turning to food, alcohol or other substances for temporary comfort
  • Living with cancer, chronic illness, or health uncertainty
  • Navigating redundancy or workplace upheaval
  • Dealing with trauma, including post-traumatic stress and unresolved emotional experiences

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches to support each client as a unique individual. I am CBT Level 5 qualified and particularly interested in this method for exploring and challenging unhelpful thought patterns. I also share practical tools and techniques where appropriate to help clients manage life’s difficulties with greater confidence and clarity.

In addition, I am a trained Integrative Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) practitioner. IEMT is often especially helpful in trauma recovery and post-traumatic disorders — particularly when clients are experiencing intrusive imagery, flashbacks, or overwhelming emotional responses. It’s a gentle yet effective approach that can complement our therapeutic work and bring noticeable relief.

Our work together begins with you deciding whether you feel comfortable talking with me. From that first session onwards, we’ll create a confidential space that’s completely focused on you — your wellbeing, your voice, and your personal goals.

Counselling is an investment in yourself. My sessions offer a dedicated time and place to be truly heard, supported, and empowered to make sense of your experience. Many clients share that having a safe and confidential space to talk — without judgment or pressure — has helped them feel calmer, more hopeful, and less alone.

Dr Clare Joanne O’Grady

Psychologist, PsychD, HCPC – Clin. Psych.

We all struggle at times – it’s part of being human. My role is to help you make sense of those difficult moments using evidence-based therapy and a compassionate, grounded approach. I work with adolescents and adults. I also offer parenting support to parents of children of all ages, including the transition to becoming a parent. I can help you to build self-compassion for your struggles which will then help to inform treatment that enables you to find exits and make meaningful changes, to enable you to live life in your valued direction.

With vast l experience working as a therapist in the NHS I bring depth, care, and a range of tools to support you on your journey. As Clinical Psychologist I have been trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, that are evidence-based and have a trauma-informed lens, to enable you to utilise the best approach for your individual difficulties.

My aim is always to offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel understood and at ease. You will also feel secure in knowing you are working with a very experienced and compassionate therapist. Together, we’ll identify the changes that matter most to you. I deeply believe in people’s capacity to grow and make meaningful change.

HANNAH O'NEIL

You might be struggling with suicidal thoughts, shame, feeling depressed, feeling constantly anxious and on edge. You might have a combination of these along with other issues that you need to work through. What you’re feeling might have been triggered by a traumatic, life altering event or you might not know why you’re feeling this way. Counselling can help from lots of different starting points. You don’t have to be at rock bottom to seek help or maybe that is where you are and that is okay too. You’ve taken the first steps to search for a counsellor. I know it takes a lot of courage, sometimes all you’ve got.

I am a person-centred counsellor trained at level 7 (PGDip). Most of my experience has been in suicide prevention and those bereaved by suicide. It is such an honour for people to trust me in some of the darkest moments of their life. As I have worked with suicide so closely, I am able to approach the topic of suicide and suicidal thoughts comfortably, something that we don’t tend to do in the outside world. There are so many factors that can contribute to people feeling like this because of this my experience also includes working with abuse, financial hardship, loss, grief, bullying, family issues, work stresses, generalised depression, anxiety, pregnancy, abortion, abandonment, loneliness and sexuality.

I offer online and face-to-face sessions. Free initial consultation, 20 min phone call.

RACHEL PERRY
Rachel Perry

Rachel Perry

Hello and thank you for looking at my profile.

I have been qualified as a Counsellor since 2013 and am also a Clinical Supervisor for other therapists. My experience includes working with adults and young people across a range of issues such as trauma, abuse, anger management, anxiety, depression, work related stress, low self esteem, stress, suicidal thoughts, OCD, self harm, and bereavement.  Over the years I’ve worked with serving police officers and civilian staff at Merseyside Police, those supported by the Victim Support Homicide Service, VI Form College students and those referred by Occupational Health providers and EAPs.

I have an affinity with people and being able to be ‘with’ them. Very quickly after a basic counselling course I realised that my combined work and life experience meant a counselling career was my calling. ‘Extremely easy to talk to’….’turned things around for me’…. ’patient’….’kind’….’helped save my life’….being just some of the favourable feedback from clients.    I offer in person, walk and talk, telephone and online appointments and a free 15 minute chat over the phone for you to decide whether you think I am right for you.

We are all different as human beings, experiencing different emotions, feeling different pain, needing different things….’the shoe that fits one person pinches another’….and that’s what makes us unique.  I acknowledge that uniqueness and that’s why I work with you using an integrative approach which means I bring in what it is we feel you need to flourish.  I think that’s really important, to feel comfortable in your own skin and I will provide a safe haven to listen to you without judgement.

I also offer Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) – a gentle therapy which can do some amazing things –  to remove life-limiting barriers and change the way we look at things – maybe beliefs about ourselves that may be holding us back.

My qualifications include Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Level 4  AQA  Dip.Couns. and Emotional Freedom Techniques Practitioner EFT Prac, EFTi (Accred).   I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).   As an accredited EFT practitioner I am registered with EFT International.

I have regular supervision consistent with safe and professional practice I undertake ongoing CPD to update and improve my counselling practice.  I am fully insured and registered with the ICO.

MEGAN PRICE
Megan Price

Megan Price

Megan Price – BA (Hons), MBACP (Registered) PGDip, PG Cert in Psychosexual Therapy.

Couples & Individuals – Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy.

Talking about sex or relationship issues can feel uncomfortable.

You might feel embarrassed, unsure where to begin, or worried you’ll be judged. But if something’s not feeling right in your sex life, your relationship, or within yourself, you deserve a place to talk it through.

I’m a COSRT registered Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist, offering warm, non-judgemental therapy for individuals and couples.

I specialise in helping people explore challenges around sex, intimacy, and connection. Whether you’re experiencing something new, something long-standing, or something you can’t quite name.

Common reasons people come to therapy with me, you might be feeling:

Sexual concerns, such as:

  • Low or mismatched desire
  • Erection or ejaculation difficulties
  • Pain during sex (vaginismus, dyspareunia)
  • Orgasm or arousal issues
  • Anxiety, shame, or confusion around sex or desire

Relationship difficulties, like:

  • Constant arguments or feeling emotionally distant
  • Trust issues or recovering from infidelity
  • Feeling stuck in patterns of criticism, silence or avoidance
  • Drifting apart or struggling with intimacy

Personal struggles, including:

  • Shame around sexual identity, needs, or past experiences
  • Feeling “not good enough” in your relationship
  • Navigating different values or emotional styles

You might be facing one of these issues, or a mix of emotional, physical and relational challenges, but you don’t have to go through it alone.

How I work:

I offer a warm, down-to-earth and compassionate space where nothing is too awkward to bring up. I also believe that therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time, a shared smile or a bit of humour can be part of what makes the work human and bearable.

That said, I take your concerns seriously. My approach is collaborative, respectful, and always centred around finding practical, meaningful ways forward. Whether that’s helping you understand yourself better, improving communication, building confidence, or rediscovering pleasure, we’ll work together to find what feels right for you.

Taking the first step

I know that reaching out about something this personal can feel daunting. But the truth is, many people are struggling silently with sex and relationship concerns and you don’t have to.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation, so we can meet, talk briefly about what’s going on, and see whether we’re a good fit. You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to start.

It’s okay to talk about sex. It’s okay to ask for more from your relationship. And it’s okay to want change. Let’s figure it out together.

MICHELLE RICHMOND
Michelle Richmond

Michelle Richmond

Michelle is an Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor who blends Person-Centred Counselling with
other counselling modalities, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory (CBT) to suit the needs of her clients. Person-Centred Counselling is where clients lead the discussions and decide what they explore in sessions to discover their own solutions to their unique issues. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings and behaviour are interconnected and making a positive change in one area can impact the others positively.

Michelle knows that the relationship between her and her clients is an essential element to her counselling work.  The foundation to that relationship is the counselling agreement between her and her clients. She provides all her clients with a written contract to ensure they can make informed consent to the terms of their counselling work.  She also offers all her clients a brief, free of charge informal chat before they start their work so that the client can ask any questions that they might have about the way she practices and what they might expect from counselling.  Michelle offers her clients a safe space to explore their thoughts and feelings.  She accepts them for who they are.  She supports and listens to them without judgement.

Michelle developed her counselling skills and experience whilst volunteering at Age UK, Cruse Bereavement Support, Wirral Hospice St John’s, and Arrowe Park Hospital’s Reminiscence Team. She therefore has a wide range of experience in many areas including anxiety, anger, bereavement and loss, dementia, low mood and depression, health issues and health anxiety, low self-esteem and low confidence, relationship issues, worry and many more.

Michelle has additional training in dementia care, online counselling, trauma-informed therapy, working creatively with grief, working with clients bereaved by miscarriage, baby and child loss, working with long term health conditions and relationship counselling. Michelle has special interests in supporting carers of those living with dementia and those recovering from breast surgery.

Michelle is a member of the professional body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), is fully insured and registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Michelle says “From time-to-time life feels tough. Sometimes we are our own worst critic rather than our best friend. You are the expert on you. I will support you and listen to you whilst we work together to try and discover why you are feeling, thinking, and behaving the way that you are. Sometimes I will act as your teacher and you my student, but we will always be a team working towards your goals.”

JAYNE ROBERTS
Jayne

Jayne

My name is Jayne and I’m a hypnotherapist. Some people are nervous about hypnotherapy but there is nothing mystical about it and I can teach you how to hypnotise yourself using self hypnosis techniques. You’re in full control.

Hypnotherapy is the same state as meditation. It is a period of calm and focused influence. It can help with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), weight gain and overeating, phobias, motivation, nerves about a procedure, exam or public speaking, smoking and addictions, confidence and self-esteem, grief and sleep issues.

I’ll work alongside you, and together we can help you to move on from what’s holding you back. I also teach relaxation techniques that you can take away and use yourself.

I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your wellbeing journey.

JENNA ROOKE
Jenna Rooke

Jenna Rooke

Hi, I’m Jenna an Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist (BSc Hons, MBACP). I work with adults, children, and young people, offering a warm, supportive, and tailored approach to therapy.

I’m currently completing an MSc in Psychology, as well as Interplay training, which further supports my work.

How I work

I’m person-centred at the core, which means therapy is shaped around you, you are the expert, it’s not a one-size-fits-all model. Some clients come with one clear issue, while others feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Either way, I work collaboratively and at a pace that feels safe and manageable, helping you build understanding, emotional steadiness and coping strategies that make a real difference day-to-day.

As an integrative counsellor, I carefully blend approaches depending on your needs and goals. This may include CBT-informed work, psychodynamic understanding, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt therapy, and solution-focused work, alongside clinical hypnotherapy where helpful.

I also offer creative and therapeutic ways of working including play therapy approaches, music therapy, sand therapy, and art-based methods. These can be powerful for both adults and children, especially when feelings are hard to put into words.

What I can help with

Therapy isn’t about fitting you into a label it’s about supporting what you’re going through. I commonly work with:

  • Trauma and difficult life experiences, including childhood experiences and long-standing patterns
  • Grief and loss, including complicated feelings that come with change
  • Anxiety, stress and panic, intrusive thoughts and emotional overwhelm
  • Low confidence and self-worth, shame, people-pleasing and feeling “not good enough”
  • Relationship difficulties, boundaries, attachment patterns, and family dynamics
  • Addiction and recovery-related concerns, building stability and healthier coping strategies
  • Neurodiversity-related challenges, including overwhelm, burnout/masking, identity, and self-understanding

I also have experience working alongside clients with complex mental health needs and layered presentations, and I understand the importance of steadiness, structure, and trust when life has felt unsafe or out of control.

My aim is to offer therapy that feels human, supportive, and genuinely helpful, so, over time you can reconnect and rediscover your own sparkle.

I am an integrative psychodynamic counsellor who is able to truly adapt treatment and approach to each individual client’s circumstances.  The focus is always upon the client’s healing needs in a safe, non-judgementally, and fully understanding therapeutic environment.

I have practiced modalities such as person-centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, hypnotherapeutic, and psychodynamic for many years.  Clients are urged to feel self-empowered and autonomous from the get-go as they practice self-reflective techniques, which I assign, in between appointments to maximise the benefits.

I see couples and individuals for relationship therapy, holding an advanced certification in couples therapy accredited by the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists.  This is an approach that is systemic yet underpinned by the psychological needs and attachment patterns of each client. I welcome clients of any gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and physical capability including neurodiverse (diagnosed or not).

I also hold certification in Advanced Baby Rainbow Training: supporting bereaved parents with subsequent pregnancies and birth.  This takes a particular set of skills outside the remit of general counselling skills.

I have a particular interest in working with issues of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and relational issues. I am also a mindfulness practice group teacher, a parenting trainer, a university lecturer, and a CYP mentor.

I started working in mental health in 2001 as a clinical hypnotherapist, since then I have completed my doctorate with the University of Liverpool and various many other certifications and diplomas with other colleges. I am a fully qualified psychodynamic counsellor registered with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the National Counselling Society (NCPS) as well as a clinical hypnotherapist registered with the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and a Mindfulness for Self-Compassion practitioner with the Mindfulness Association (MA).  These internationally recognised governing bodies abide by the highest professional ethics, safeguarding and CPD training standards.

Apart from the expected professional standard of clinical hypnotherapy I also bring my own lived experiences to the counselling relationship. I find that this is where the healing magic truly happens.

Effective Therapy for Psychological Trauma, Anxiety and Depression

Regain Control of Your Mental Health.

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Work related stress
  • Addiction

Welcome! My name is Dave Scott. I am an accredited BACP and an Accredited EMDR UK & Ireland Psychotherapist. I offer Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Couples Therapy, Hypno-Psychotherapy and Coaching / Non-Managerial Supervision as well as Clinical Supervision.

I specialise in trauma focused therapy for PTSD, but I am equally experienced and qualified to work with a full range of anxiety and depression disorders. Treatments are designed and tailored to the individual and provide lasting results, helping you to regain control of your mental health. I provide a safe and nonjudgemental space. I am able to offer more than model to suit individual.

An Experienced Clinician You Can Trust

I am accredited with both BACP (The British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and EMDR UK & Irelands. I have been working in the field of mental health since 1997 including many years within NHS services as a therapist, manager and supervisor and in private practise since 2002.

Currently, I work part time as a High Intensity (HIT) Therapist within IAPT NHS Therapy Services where I provide EMDR therapy clinics. I have also had a private contract since 2017 within occupational Health local Railway Services and I work for other Railway operators occasionally too.

I have much experience working within various workplace settings including the Arts and Music industry, Banks, Civil Service, Construction, Emergency Services / Fire Service at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. I also have experience working with couples, addiction, identity / relationship difficulties. I am currently studying the integration of EMDR + Music into my work.

I have worked as a manager, therapist and clinical supervisor within NHS therapy services and worked for most of the large EAP workplace therapy referral services e.g. BUPA / AXA. I have worked within Male Suicide Prevention Therapy Services and within various FE and University Therapy Services. I am an on-site trauma responder within workplaces, including construction, Retail settings, and Insurance businesses / civil service.

EMDR
I am trained within NHS IAPT Services as a HIT (High Intensity) in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This is an important therapeutic approach used for the treatment of various mental health disorders.

EMDR is a Therapy used for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) whether this is connected to recent or past traumatic events. Clients are guided to recall traumatic events whilst stimulating the brain via Bilateral Stimulation (BLS). I use options to help the process including light therapy, music or tapping and often a combination. This helps to access the frozen memory network, process the
trauma and reduce the emotional distress that is associated with it. This approach is well researched and part of NICE guidance as good practise within the NHS for helping with PTS symptoms.

If you would like to learn more about EMDR therapy, please see the links below;

EMDR + Music

I am currently in further training around the integration of EMDR + Music into my trauma related work. The EMDR + Music Integrated Model, an approach which can help clients engage more deeply with EMDR, and which can be transformative.

Supportive Music & Imagery, a short-term resourcing therapy can be a useful grounding process in the early phases of EMDR. This modality can also be a valuable stand-alone therapy.

IPT

I am trained within NHS IAPT Services as a HIT (High Intensity) Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). As an approach and model, IPT helps those affected by depression / low mood connected to difficulties in relationships.

Often, we find patterns of either being in disputes with others or withdrawing from others and IPT helps us to think about how we communicate and relate to others. How we can repair relationships and / or figure out when relationships are no longer healthy or helpful. It helps us to re connect with others in our network whether it be personal relationships, family or working relationships.

This approach is well researched and part of NICE guidance as good practise within the NHS for helping with Depression.

Couples Therapy

I am trained within NHS IAPT Services as a HIT (High Intensity) Couples for Depression Model therapist and trained at the Tavistock in London. I also previously trained in couple’s therapy with RELATE. LBGTQ Friendly Services provided.

Hypno-Psychotherapy

Hypno-Psychotherapy can be helpful in many areas including phobias, e.g. flying. This approach can also be helpful around addiction and anger management / deep relaxation for anxiety related issues including social anxiety and past trauma.

Clinical Supervision

In my experience, counselling and psychotherapy supervision is best when an environment is created where we can consider the whole picture: Your clinical practice, personal development, career development, as well as the most challenging aspects of the work we do. Having undergone extensive training in various modalities, underpinned by my initial person-centred training 30 years ago, experience and feedback shows me that I am able to create a safe, containing, non-judgemental psychological environment where we can explore the whole picture. I have completed training in EMDR, IPT, organisational trauma (I work as an onsite trauma responder, couples therapy and group supervision. I also ensure I complete an ongoing and varied programme of CPD, often trauma / EMDR, well as the full range of clinical issues. My own work
experience includes long-term psychotherapy and brief-focused counselling in private practice since 2002 with most of the EAP’s, enabling me to support Supervisees in building theory private practise links. I had private contract work with Liverpool John Lenon Airport Fire Service, Local Community Colleges offering staff support, supervising drug and alcohol workers and non-managerial supervision to professionals.

Manager Supervision / Coaching

Working as a people manager or in a caring professional role can be taxing and overwhelming, as well as many roles as a supporter. Supervision outside of the workplace and separately from meetings with your manager can be very helpful in terms of managing change, stress in the workplace and allows a space to process and manage work life balance for wellbeing advisors, or workers and managers in wellbeing or educational settings, although I have also offered this too managers in other settings too such as civil service roles.

I believe in empathetic supervision, that I’ve been conducting now since 2002 both privately as well as within NHS settings, utilising my experience in mental health and counselling, psychotherapy and integrating this with my people management and change development experience, having worked in management roles myself in the past.

KEITH SIMPSON
Keith Simpson

Keith Simpson

Keith Simpson Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, Person Centred Counsellor and EMDR Therapist

I am a fully qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), Accredited Person Centred Counsellor with the BACP and trained in Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an intervention to help people process traumatic memories that are still impacting significantly on their day to day life.

I have worked in the NHS since 2010 and more recently in private practice, where I have been privileged to support adults, who have presented with a wide range of mental and physical health difficulties including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Trauma, Eating Disorders, Loss, Self Esteem, Adjustment Disorder, Depression, Self Harm and Long Term Health conditions.

My therapeutic approach is guided by your individual needs. There are times in our life when we struggle to feel connected to people and the world around us. This may be as a result of events in your life that have triggered your threat response to be on high alert, such as childhood traumas, including abuse, neglect, bullying, health problems, family separation, loss. It may also be due to events in adulthood, such as relationship break downs, redundancy, personal injury, workplace bullying, bereavement, or the impact of the pandemic.

My aim is to provide a warm and friendly approach, without judgment, to help you identify the causes of whatever you are struggling with and then to offer a tailor made approach, based on your needs, to enable you to find some peace and contentment within yourself.

I provide short, or long term therapy, depending on what you hope to achieve from your sessions. The sessions can either be held remotely (telephone or video sessions), or face to face.

Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma based intervention that can help you to process trauma memories that are still impacting your life due to flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or images, nightmares and hyper vigilance. The aim of the intervention is to help you to feel more connected to the present and confine your trauma memories to the past

Within Person Centred Counselling, you will have the space to gain a greater awareness of how and why you may be struggling to manage your emotions, as a result of specific difficulties occurring in your life. I will respect you as a unique human being and work with you to bring about the changes you want to make within yourself and your life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you to identify how life events have impacted on the way you perceive yourself, others and the world, which may be resulting in symptoms of depression and anxiety. In turn, you may now be avoiding situations for fear of being judged, or worrying that something bad is going to happen. You may then find yourself in a vicious cycle that you are stuck in. Through greater awareness of what is maintaining your vicious cycle, I can help you gain the confidence to feel more in control of your thoughts and behaviours, which can result in your reversing the vicious cycle.

David Soares

Dr David Soares is an Educational Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. He is currently employed by a large, local authority in the Northwest of England, alongside his role as Director of DS Educational Psychology. Further, David also attends as an Honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester.

As a parent, it is normal to have concerns about the difficulties your child may face at school, but when faced with so many options and contradictory advice, finding the best source of support can become overwhelming and frustrating.

What so many other options fail to address is that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. As an Educational Psychologist, David understands the importance of adopting an individual approach for each child, as children vary both in their experiences and their development.

David offers a comprehensive Educational Psychologist assessment, to help better equip you to support your child’s individual needs both at home and in school. David can also provide assessments in situations where concerns are raised by educational professionals, to help find the best approach. David will provide you with a comprehensive report of the process and involvement, so that you can easily access the information and share with other professionals involved in your child’s progress. This report can be used as supporting documentation should you need to apply for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to obtain further support, and for older children, it can be implemented to help them receive extra time/support in their examinations.

PHIL STEWART
Phil Stewart

Phil Stewart

Hello my name is Phil.  Thank you for taking an interest in my profile and may I acknowledge your courage in seeking help.  I have been a client myself and I never underestimate just how difficult it can be to reach out and take the first step.

I’m a Person Centred counsellor.  This model of counselling is based on the theory that each of us has within us the natural resources to live life as fully as we can.  Sometimes we lose connection with these resources and one way to reconnect is through a therapeutic relationship which is collaborative, non-directive, authentic and free from judgment.

I have been trained in an integrative approach and have an understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy, transactional analysis and grief and loss, as well as being trauma informed, and I regularly participate in continued professional development. I am fully qualified to level 6 standard and a member of the BACP. As much as it is important to have knowledge and understanding of different counselling models, I truly believe that therapy is as unique and creative as you are and so I am guided by what is right for you.

I have experience of working with people with a wide range of issues including chronic illness and disability, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, male and female domestic abuse, relationships, discrimination, suicidal ideation and working around trauma.

I strive to provide a safe and impartial space to hopefully create the conditions necessary in order to help you understand and accept yourself.  My aim is to try to gain an understanding of how you experience the world through your eyes by attentively listening to you and supporting you on your journey.

I embrace diversity and endeavour to provide access to counselling for anyone who needs help and support, regardless of ability, race, age, gender, sexuality or social status.  I myself have lived experience having a neurological condition called M.E. and also have a good understanding of neurodiversity within my family.

Thanks again for taking the time to read about me and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel that we can work together.  If not, may I wish you all the best for you going forward and in everything you do.

MANUELA SURGEON
Manuela Surgeon

Manuela Surgeon

Hello, my name is Manuela Surgeon. Thank you for looking at my profile.

My professional background is as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Psychotherapeutic Supervisor registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and an Emotional Aromatherapy Advisor and AromaPressure Practitioner, registered with the Cambridge College of Holistic Health and International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine.

I have been working in NHS and independent mental health services on a national basis for nearly three decades as a specialised clinician as well as providing management and clinical leadership of therapy services.

I am passionate about emotional wellbeing and mental health and offer specialised services which improve both mental health and emotional wellbeing and help my clients enjoy life to the full.

My clinics are in Chester, Heswall and Mold.

Mental Health

My therapy modality is psychodynamic and psychoanalytic, and my specialist areas are recurrent anxiety, depression, relationship problems, abuse, self-harm, past and recent trauma, and issues related to self-esteem.

My clients come to me because they are struggling with daily intense anxious feelings or fears, which are often accompanied by physical symptoms like restlessness, difficulties in concentration, experiencing nausea, stomach upset, rapid heartbeat and breathing problems.

Some of my clients experience depressive symptoms such as being unusually sad or having irritable mood that doesn’t go away, a lack of energy, persistent tiredness, and intense guilt feelings. These can result in feeling worthless, thinking about death, and wishing to be dead.

Having these difficult feelings and thoughts can result in relationship problems which then reinforce the ongoing cycle of darkness, being stuck and engaging in destructive behaviours either towards themselves or others. Often my clients have tried other therapy approaches but found little or no relief.

Attending a course of psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy make my clients feel empowered, being in control of their actions as well as a reduction of their psychological issues. My clients have learned strategies to manage stressful life events, resulting in feeling content and enjoying life again.

Emotional Wellbeing

There are many ways to improve your emotional wellbeing and to address psychological pain such as minor anxiety and depressive symptoms and physical pain.

I utilise Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupressure, Aromatherapy and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to support my clients’ emotional wellbeing. Having completed a course of Aromatherapy or AromaPressure results in my clients feeling more confident and being more self-aware. In addition, my clients are managing their emotions in a positive way and building on their emotional intelligence and resilience. My clients are learning about stress and how to address it healthily. This ultimately results in increasing their self-worth and to live their lives to the fullest.

Please contact me for further information and arrange a free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss which approach is most suited to you for your emotional and mental wellbeing.

LAURA WITHINGTON
Laura Withington

Laura Withington

Hello, and welcome.
I’m a fully qualified counsellor trained in Person-Centred Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). At the heart of my work is a genuine belief in the power of connection — and the profound changes that can happen when you feel truly seen, heard, and accepted.

My approach is collaborative and compassionate. I walk alongside you as we gently explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be holding you back. Together, we can begin to challenge the limiting beliefs and assumptions that may have taken root over time — all within a safe, non-judgemental space.

While I primarily practice person-centred counselling, I can draw on CBT tools where helpful — offering strategies that support you in moving forward at a pace that feels right for you. Every session is guided by you: your story, your feelings, your needs.

Why might you seek counselling?

Often, from a young age, we develop unconscious beliefs about who we are, what we deserve, and how we must be in the world in order to feel safe or loved. These beliefs may have once helped us cope — but over time, they can quietly become barriers to growth and fulfilment.

You might have a persistent feeling that something isn’t quite right — a sense of disconnection, anxiety, or low self-worth that’s hard to name. Or perhaps you’re facing a difficult transition or relationship challenge. Whatever it is, counselling offers space to begin untangling these feelings and reconnect with your true self.

My background and experience

Before private practice, I worked as a Social Prescriber for Citizens Advice Wirral and the NHS, helping individuals improve their wellbeing and feel more empowered in their lives. I’ve also supported people across a wide range of settings — including:

  • NSPCC Childline Counsellor
  • Age UK Counsellor
  • Careers guidance & coaching
    Prison education and career support
  • Bliss volunteer on neonatal wards

These roles have deepened my understanding of how we cope with emotional pain, trauma, and uncertainty — and just how resilient we truly are when we have the right support.

Who I work with

I work with adults supporting a broad range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and social anxiety
  • Stress and burnout
  • Depression and low mood
  • Life transitions
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Body image and personal development
  • Relationship and family issues
  • Grief, loss and bereavement
  • Women’s issues
  • Work-related challenges

Finding the right counsellor is an important step.
It’s not just about qualifications — it’s about feeling safe enough to be yourself. In our first session, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to counselling, and whether I’m the right fit for you. There’s no pressure, just an open space to begin where you are.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.

I offer both face-to-face and online video sessions, and can support you on either a short- or long-term basis — depending on your needs.

Whatever you’re going through, you don’t have to face it alone.
You deserve support that honours your story and holds space for the person you’re becoming.

Anthony Wood

Introduction:

My name is Anthony Wood I am a fully qualified counsellor. I have years of experience in many different aspects of complex mental health. I have worked with both children and adults within schools, hospitals, agencies, and charities providing mental health services. I run both youth and adult groups, programs and training throughout the year and have a lot of experience with client work.

I understand that taking the first steps to begin counselling may be daunting for some and that is why I prioritize the need for a warm, non-judgmental, empathic, and confidential environment that provides you with a safe space to talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experience of life.

Qualifications in counselling:

I am fully qualified as an integrative counsellor which means I can use different types of approaches, but I will always start the session person centred. This means to build trust and a working relationship, I let the client lead me into their experience and let them prioritise their concerns while listening and asking open questions when needed. This technique helps the client to start to answer their own questions and solutions while listening and helping you reflect and explore your past or present problems. After a few sessions we will work together to agree what counselling approach would be most beneficial and appropriate and we work towards progress, growth and closure.

I can offer help with the following subjects:

Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Bereavement, Loss, Abuse, Health related issues, confidence and Self-esteem, Co-parenting, relationship issues, work related issues, stress, trauma, social media, Peer pressure, School problems, Self-harming or suicidal thoughts, overthinking, negative thoughts, phobias, addictions, Neurodiversity, Infertility, personal development, acceptance, self-image, and identity issues.

I have worked with and have training in the following subjects:

Child and adult counselling, Trauma, bereavement, and loss training, neurodiversity, LGBTQIA+ training, Cognitive behavioural therapy, transactional analysis, Psychodynamics, Safeguarding adults and children, Conflict resolution, Dementia awareness, Drug and alcohol addiction, Suicide Prevention, Gambling and gaming awareness, sand play therapy, Psychological first aid, Empowerment programs, coparenting, domestic abuse, crime, Anxiety in children, anger management, relationship building, Depression.

Insurance and checks:

I am fully insured to run a private practice for counselling, and I am also a proficient member of the BACP which stands for The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The Association sets and maintains standards for the profession which follows an ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My certificates are all up to date which include an enhanced DBS certificate, safeguarding children and adults’ certificate, food hygiene and allergy and an enhanced first aid certificate.
